Our business in Asia

Established in Italy in 1831, Generali is one of the largest insurance companies in the world. We first gained our foothold in Europe then followed with South America and Asia and have since been providing insurance services to corporates and individuals for 189 years.

With a solid European foundation, Generali first arrived in Asia in 1975. Today, you will find our offices in eight markets throughout the region that include: China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Hong Kong SAR is also the home of our regional headquarters.

A first relationship is established between Generali and Jardine Matheson & Co in Hong Kong


Official establishment of a Generali branch in Singapore under the name of “Far East Office”


Hong Kong branch is registered with the Insurance Authority


Set up Japan branch


Two joint venture companies are established in the Philippines (Life and P&C)


First Life Joint Venture is established in China with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC)


Generali enters the Thai insurance market through acquisition of two local companies (Life and P&C)


A P&C Joint Venture is established in China with CNPC


Two Joint Ventures are established in India - Life and P&C JVs with Future Group


We establish a Life insurance company in Indonesia


We establish a Life insurance company in Vietnam


We establish a branch of Generali Worldwide, formerly Generali International, (Wealth Management) in Singapore


We enter the Malaysia P&C market through the acquisition of Multi-Purpose insurans


We establish a wholly owned Life insurance subsidiary in Hong Kong with a focus on HNW


The joint venture with BDO in Philippines is terminated and relaunched with a converted P&C license to a Life license
