A Little History
The Generali Group has a proud heritage dating back over 175 years. In 2006, we celebrated our 175th anniversary, which makes us one of the oldest insurance groups. Our Asian operations have marked a significant expansion in the Group’s direction and strategy.
2007The Generali Group establishes a presence in India through Future Generali, and extends its Chinese operation through Generali China Insurance. This makes Generali the first Sino-Foreign JV in China to provide Life & Non Life services to customers. |

2006The Generali Group celebrates its 175th anniversary. The Generali Employee benefits network celebrates its 40th year in operation. |
2002Generali extends its network in Asia by setting up operations in Thailand. Generali China Life commences operations. |

2000Generali establishes 2 insurance companies in the Philippines. Following a series of talks with Chinese authorities, in June 2000 Generali received the green light to operate in China. |

1981Generali’s 150th anniversary is solemnly celebrated with numerous official events. Its position was at the top of the domestic market, controlled a group comprising 35 insurance and 67 real estate and financial companies. This represented one of the biggest players in Europe. |

1975Generali sets up a branch in Hong Kong. This marked a significant turning point as it was the beginning of Generali’s focus in Asia. |
1966Generali Employee Benefits (GEB) starts its operations. This would extend to become one of the world’s largest networks of multinational clients. |

1908Generali is granted a license and enters the Chinese market for the first time. Generali closed the branch a few decades later before reentering the Chinese market in 2000. |

1848Generali adopts the Lion of St. Mark as its symbol and trademark. This followed after the establishment of the Republic of Venice, and thus the suffix Austro-Italiche was removed. |

1687The Lloyds coffee house was founded by marine traders in London. In 1771, The Society of Lloyds was founded by the members of the Lloyds coffee house. Since then, almost every risk could be covered by Lloyds. |
